For .38, lots of powders work well. I've used Hodgdon CFE-Pistol, Alliant Bullseye, Hodgdon HP-38 (or Winchester 231, which is exactly the same powder), Hodgdon Titegroup. All of them work well, but I probably prefer HP-38 or Bullseye. For 9 mm, a lot of powders work, but the best is Power Pistol. It's the stuff the military loads in 9mm.
