Essentially one of my closest friends has two Surgeon rifles chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor, and he has tried out a 26" barrel as well as a 22" barrel (both with the same contour and rifle setup). He has fired both guns 1,000+ rounds and shot over his Oehler 35P chronograph regularly. High rates of fire will wear out a barrel faster. But to answer your question, yes a 6.5 creedmoor barrel will lose optimal accuracy, on average, more quickly than a 308. That said, it's not a blaster. If 2,500-3,000 rounds of optimum accuracy isn't enough, you may want to get another caliber. When it comes to barrel life, we believe it's safe to say that.308 Winchester cartridges have a longer lifespan. Due to high speeds and small bore, the 6.5 Creedmoor cartridges can't last as long.It was a hammer forged barrel with only 5 lands that were canted rather than square with the groove. Perhaps the design played a role as well. Regardless, the .308 is a very gentle round when it comes to barrel life and with proper care it will last a long time and remain accurate for most shooters needs.
